I believe cops need a lot more requirements to be hired. Make them need college degrees and spend longer time in the academy. In my area, being hired as a police officer is advertised as being as simple as filling out an application. Also, change the way the academy teach police as well. Focus more on calming down situations and dealing with hostile civilians peacefully and get rid of this “us vs them” mentality.

Larry preaches about selecting the right people and says you can't give a guy with any past accusations a chance, but he is a convicted felon? I dont disagree with some of his thoughts. Still, its odd that the comment section seems to agree but they also believe every word he says, inspire of his past. I'm not saying that he isn't being truthful. There's no way go know. Btw, corrections officers and police officers are completely different\seperate. Police Departments often don't even have a jail; while Sheriff's Departments do. Larry knows nothing about POLICE OFFICERS from his time in the correctional system. He possibly went years without seeing a single police officer. Basically, we should refund the police and hire the best people. Good luck with that.

Aside from all the things that have come out recently about the Floyd case, the problem with the police is unions. Imo all unions, private or public, had place a long time ago before there were employment laws and equal opportunity now the only use they have is prevent the members from being fired and prevent all the things we want to see changed. Be it teacher unions to car manufacturing unions to all the others they prevent the changes you want while getting the members mandatory raises and benefits and termination perfections.

There is a problem with some of Larry’s logic. He says he dosnt belive in bad people, but he believes in bad decisions. This applies to some cops to. Instead if a cop has something bad on their record they should be on probation for a while. And if probation is violated or if they have to many bad things on their record then they should no longer be allowed to be a police officer or work in law.
Keavin Costa
Keavin Costa 3 kuukautta sitten
I think one of the best ways to improve police brutality has to do with the media. The media wants u to belive that anytime a black man is shot, tased or cuffed it is police brutality. The news especially tries to cut context out. That’s why cops aren’t “getting away with police brutality” bc it was lawful.

I could say the same thing about criminals: the crime is on the serious rise, so do we strike down on criminals too? In the current situation police could be authorised to shoot perps on sight, but would anyone do it? NO!!! Remember how you said about "not bad people, but bad choices"? That's what it's about, not abolishing the police and preying on the defenseless cities. The big thing about police brutality is also the flawed media pushing the clickable, click-worthy titles and articles. Would you hear too much about a cop saving a man in the street? Or saving a family from robbers or rioters? NO, you'll hear about a police squad using tear gas and pointing guns at "protesters" and then a day or two later the full uncut video will come out showing 20 guys with bottles and rocks charging at the police, but you won't hear of it, you will've moved on. Does anything happen? NO. By that time you don't give a shit.
Greg DjentyGuy
Greg DjentyGuy 4 kuukautta sitten
Imagine if all the money for bailing out criminals would go to you for formal work, for you to hire the right people and direct the reform's design? The BLM movement could be such a benificial movement for improving on this imperfect system. Imagine if the prison system actually helped the convicts and was able to reduce crime. Not just the white convicts, all of them: crime could be reduced (not by a large margin), the police could have a sane amount of work to get to and THEN we could start investing more into education and such. Is that what's happening? No, those people are the kids from Lord of the Flies until a grown-up comes and the world sees them for who they are.

You went by a department with a tank? with a tube that fires explosive shells? because the DOD sells a lot of things like camo uniforms an MRAPS at a extreme discount, and armored vehicles are used as disaster relief, or as armor against active shooters and such. I'd love clarification

I agree that police brutality is a big problem, and I agree with most of what you've said, but I'd like to give my point of view on the weapons and equipment given to police. Obviously I don't think Police need tanks, but stuff like MRAPS and other armored vehicles help protect police AND citizens, during the North Hollywood shootout 2 heavily armed criminals robbed a bank while wearing body armor and illegaly modified automatic rifles. The Police at the time were only armed with Pistols with ammunition not capable of penetration. They needed to commandeer some AR-15s from a local firearms dealer in order to obtain the firepower needed to put them down, along with a SWAT team. They even used an armored car to evacuate wounded civilians and get them to safety. They are also used during disasters like floods in order to help people in need. People say that it doesn't reduce crime but that isn't the intention, the intention is to reduce the amount of deaths. Police need this equipment because the criminals have it, they need to have matching or greater firepower in order to ensure the protection of themselves and other people and to minimize casualties. I do agree that riot control equipment such as tear gas and rubber bullets should not be used on protesters though, overall this is a really good video and I would love to see more!

The part of police officers using more of the mouth is the best tool a police officer can have. Because just by talking can solve situations without having to use force. I know this because a police taser instructor told me this, when I went on a work experience week with the police. I then also spoken with another one who was in a neighbourhood team and asked why did he join. His answer was he wanted to give back something to the community. Community policing is in my opinion is vital, because you get to know your community and meet all kinds of people and getting to know them.

You're on point with almost everything here, but the good cop reporting the bad cop tends to get fired or treated horribly by the rest from then on. There is a culture that contributes to perpetuating qualified immunity applying to anything and everything they do except for anything perceived to be against each other, like a gang. I say this of course also aware that there are very valuable members of our society in the role of being a police officer doing justice's work the way it should be done, but all these activities lately are quite the tipping point for quite a large number of people.

Larry, do you believe the premise that once a man has committed a crime and broke the rules of society that they forgot their rights to society? Because that is the premise of the whole thing, that and jail is keeping the criminals off of the streets. Also do you believe in the death penalty? The premise that once a man has taken another’s life he loses the right to his own? For the death penalty has nearly been abolished, and though many have changed after killing, many have also killed again because they did not receive the death penalty. For instance, convicts convicted of murder murdering their roommates and still not receiving any more heinous of a punishment than a Jewel thief such as yourself.
Zack 5 kuukautta sitten
Larry, do you ever feel that we are overblowing the situation and calling many police brutal when they are just doing their job? And that this can cause incidents such as at the riots police officers being beaten and not doing anything about it because they are being afraid of the false accusations the news will bring to them? Also, with that and holding police much more accountable than, say, a black man robbing a pregnant woman by sticking a gun on her belly(that’s what George Floyd has done) could cause many good cops to not join the force for fear of unrealistic standards? And what do you have to say about the rising police brutality(brutality toward police) and the lack of respect for police, and what do you believe twitter and the news has to do with this, with the edited tapes to make it seem like the police just attacked people rather than them doing their job?

One of the biggest problems I think is the cycle of mistrust between the police and minorities. The minorities don’t trust the police because they only experience the bad side of it and the police don’t trust minorities because they don’t the police. That cycle needs to be broken and it has to be broken by the police because if you’re a minority especially if you’re black you’re taught from a young age that a police officer doesn’t need a reason to beat you or take your life. I’m half black half white and I look Hispanic but my dad always taught me that lesson. And yes we know there are good cops but there’s no way to tell if the cop that stopped you is good or bad it’s not like the bad ones walk around in kkk masks wit nazi symbols on them.

Larry, I would love to sit down with you and have a dialogue with you for your channel. I fully agree with everything you said here. I only feel that there is one very small exception to what you said. Cops having armored vehicles. For regular patrol officers? I fully agree. But I believe that a SWAT team should have access to a small armored vehicle because of how useful those can be if a SWAT team is trying to serve a warrant and the person they are after opens fire. I think specifically and only in the instance of SWAT having ONE armored truck should be allowed. Let’s face it, the law enforcement involved with the North Hollywood shootout probably would have been able to resolve that situation more quickly if they had access to an armored vehicle that day. When officers borrowed an armored bank truck that day, they were able to save many lives of civilians and injured officers in the line of fire.

Larry these cops who keep abusing knowing they’re on video I bet are the ones who are the rotten apples. The ones who are literally like sharks roll their eyes and just attack type. Black out and lose control. And unfortunately. The union has to defend them. At least here in Canada you have to provide anyone in a Union proper representation. And then these issue can go to arbitration. And the arbitrator could aids with the officer in a way that he still loses his job but gets a god recommendation when leaving that department. You just ask your brother and he will give you all the in and outs of the union. And again that hurts the officers that are good who need the help. Oh it’s just a total shit show Larry. We need sweeping reforms right across the board. We have whistle blower laws up here but you are still tainted. You’re marked. Like you said no one likes a rat. Well we have to define what a rat is nowadays. Do we serve the good of the many or the good of the few. And this is where it has been focused on the good of the few. 30 years of creating chaos in unemployment because corporations want to increase profits. Etc etc. How is it after the WW2 a typical nuclear middle class family could afford a house, a car, maybe a tv go on a yearly vacation and dad was the only one to work. Now there aren’t any jobs for people just getting out of high school. You have to go to university and the scramble afterwards is you’re not guaranteed a job afterwards. So corporations and actually still are using “SLAVE, SLAVE one more time SLAVE” in countries like China, India, Pakistan to maximize their profits. And yet we are ok with that. Turn a blind eye. You know Larry it seems like I’m a lunatic being all over the map but just stop and think about everything. I’ve spoke of then think of what you have in your home and where it’s made. Etc etc. Then think of the social impacts and economic impacts people are facing today. Why so many people have to be on medications for coping. To try and keep up. Police brutality is a great stepping stone. But we have to take back our society in North America. As a Canadian we are immune to racism. Natives, were actually murdered in schools back in the 50’s. We in this country I think belittle those who wish to bring forth issues or shame them to believe that they’re making a big deal over nothing. But I guess I’ll end but there needs to be a lot and I mean lot of social change ratified to have a successful outcome.
