@War Horse Nothing is going to happen to Larry. People want MORE prisons not LESS. The Government is doing what the people want. People want to feel safe and if it means locking people up, so be it. Is it right? Can it be better? Of course. Will people stand up and fight for a drug dealer, a thief? No, they probably won't.

When I was 17 (I'm 32 now) I ran away from home, which is in Tennessee, and went to Michigan because I was in a long distance relationship with a girl there that I'd met online. She came to Tennessee first, so it wasn't like I just met someone on the internet and blindly traveled to meet them, but that's another story. I ended up having to go to a Juvenile Detention Center in Detroit of all places, which the cops affectionately referred to as the wolverine house. I'd never been in trouble before, so I was a bit nervous and didn't know what to expect. That place was terrible. Upon arriving, they stripped me down to my underwear and took pictures of me and noted any scars, piercings, tattoos, or any other identifying markings on my body. I was one of three white kids in the entire facility. The treatment from the guards was aggressive as fuck, and they had no problem being physical with anyone who stepped out of line. It had a military bootcamp feeling to it. I was there for just two days, but in that time I saw a gigantic black guard beat the shit out of a chubby white boy that I found out had some sort of mental disorder, and was prescribed seroquel. The guard busted this kids mouth up and blacked his eye. His face was a swollen mess. That really shocked me to my core. The reason he got fucked up is because he kept coming out of his room. The setup to the block was like a capital T. Two people to each room, with no toilet in the rooms. The bathroom was in the middle where the hallways connected. This place was packed to the brim with so many kids. Multiple kids had gunshot scars, or stab scars. The other white kid (not the previously mentioned) had been in a fire at some point in his life and was scarred from head to toe, and missing most of his fingers. I really just couldn't believe there were so many kids there, and all got treated like shit, regardless of their age or race. The food was garbage, the entire facility was freezing cold because it was the middle of winter in Detroit, and they didn't have heating in the rooms as far as I could tell, just a couple space heaters in the hallway. The food was also terrible, and slim pickings. I gave all of my food away while I was there and the kids that got it were so fucking happy to have extra food. This was 15 years ago, but those memories are still vivid, and will stay with me until I die. Thinking back on that shit makes me so sad. We need to do better for our society. Going to prison, or jail is supposed to be about rehabilitation, and providing people with the means to better themselves and their situation so when they get out they don't fall right back to the same mistakes. As long as private, for profit prisons exist, things will never change for the better.

I like to hear your stories, but don't you think sitting and telling stories with you and your brother and people commenting that you are like the Uncle sitting around telling cool stories makes people think "Oh what fun"? Prison seems to be a horrible, inhumane place. Just for the fact that it makes people worse and not reformed should give the taxpayers pause. BUT I don't think it helps when a career criminal like you.and your brother sit around talking like you had the time of your lives stealing and being locked up. The truth of the matter is you left a lot of broken lives in your wake. You are trying to do good now and that is commendable. But stop acting like drug dealing, petty theft (when law abiding Americans work damn hard) are not worthy crimes, ESPECIALLY drug dealing. I don't think you are trying to, but it seems you dismiss a lot of crime as "not a big deal" and also glamorize your former lifestyle.
Donnalee Clubb

Ugh, most 14 year olds do not sell drugs, maybe in YOUR world they do, but I know PLENTY of 14 year olds who do not sell drugs. AND YES...drug selling is MURDER. Now, can they do better? Certainly. But quit acting like a drug dealer is a petty crime. Talk to someone.who's kid is an addict and dies from getting drugs from a convicted drug dealer, then tell me they are not murderers.

I love the quotes, and have heard almost all of them before. But my favorite new quote is from you, Larry. "Our Constitution should be solid. It should be more solid during times of crisis, not less solid. I don't need the Constitution when everything is going well. I need the Constitution when it's not. That's what makes a country strong". Amen, brother. We need to wake up. The law of the land, the Constitution and our Bill of Rights is being trampled for political reasons, and 64% of college kids and 43% of regular folks are all for it. Fighting hard FOR tyranny, and to have our rights stripped away forever. T. J. has so many great quotes, but the one about not deserving liberty or security, and losing both has never been more applicable. We are in troubled times. Larry, you're no angel, but you're doing the work of one. Keep it up brother.

Your rights end where other people's rights begin. Someone else's right to health and living is more important than your right to free movement. Your rights can not break another person's rights; you may throw fists around you all day long, but you cannot throw fists in the approximity of another person and hit them, is a good analogy. I'm just saying this because constitutional experts, of nearly every country in respect to their own constitutions, agree that rights can be temporarily removed to protect other people's rights in time's of crisis. That being said, I enjoy your videos a lot and respect your work.
Tim BM
Tim BM 2 kuukautta sitten
Btw, I just wanted to add one more thing; you yourself have been part of a system that removed your rights temporarily to protect other people - from you. It's no different in a health crisis.

I spent a very short amount of time in Durango, it was terrible. luckily I was released but on an ankle monitor for 2 months. I couldn't imagine staying in there for tht whole time. I'm 16 it happened in July. I got court on October 26th . Praying I don't get sent back there. The impound also hasn't given me my stuff back, first telling me tht it was under someone else's name tht I got arrested with even tho the backpack was with me as well as my phone. They then later said tht the items were being held for evidence

Kids are impressionable you put them in with the other "baddy" kids and they start learning new "skills". The kid comes out and does worse things. I think all juveniles should be separate. I'm sure the justice system sees it the same way. Children also don't have constitutional rights, those only come at age 18, but also, depending on the crime committed, you may lose your rights. The lesson is: don't commit crimes if you love your freedoms.

I know that Judges are all of a defiled nature, 1 Samuel 8; forsaking the creator is a crime against nature, Judges are Inhumane. Enoch 53 & 54 for tells the Judges and Kings of the earth being removed from their position of power by the Great Holy One, because they oppressed the people of the earth rather than correcting them; they caused the people to become cruel, so that they became oppressive toward one another, they caused the people to execute Satan's judgments rather than The Lord of Hosts Righteousness. We are all victims of Demons that have no say so in determining judgments on this earth; these demons are the Judges of this earth today, you can only be sinless by obeying the one law the creator gave to Moses. People who put it In their hands to become Judges already have a place prescribed for them in Hell.

I wasn’t in a juvenile detention center, but I was in a residential treatment center. Basically, it’s for kids who struggle with mental health issues or “troubled teens”. Sometimes judge will make kids go there. You’d be surprised how much shit goes down there. The troubled teen industry is crazy corrupt, and thriving. And little to nobody even knows what it is. I saw some bad shit go down there, and I was only a kid. I mean kids as young as 12 get sent there. Tons of abuse, physical, sexual, emotional. They restrained us, drugged us, isolated us, there’s tons of gay conversion stuff, and it was all happening behind closed doors. On their websites they make these places look amazing, and like these great treatment centers. In reality they’re terrible. I literally walked in on my roommate (one of my closest friends) hanging from the shower. I was 16, and she was 15. And don’t even get me started on those wilderness programs. The one that I went to was actually shut down, the whole thing was hell a fucking illegal. and just terrible conditions. I mean, these are kids who got sent there some of them just because they had depression and their parents didn’t know how to deal with them. They crazy overcharge the parents like hundreds of thousands of dollars, and scam everyone. Most of them are in Utah because their laws allow the staff to restrain us more and do whatever they see fit and not have any consequences, and also you can sign yourself out of some places in California at 16. Even at 18 in Utah you sometimes can’t. The staff are all Mormon. Hearing stories about juvenile detention centers really reminded me of all of this.

My students spent months in what is called ‘Rock Road’ here in Florida. The opportunities they lost over marijuana charges is horrible. Many of my students have lost so much and have been mistreated in jail. It’s heartbreaking. They are often felons. At 16 years old. It’s so sad. And I am blessed to be able to teach these kids. They have taught me more than I have ever taught them.

I spent almost a year in juvenile detention centers. It wasnt a whole lot of time, but the things I saw, and experienced changed me forever. I'm 28 now, and I still dont know if it was for better or worse. I spent a month in Juvenile Hall. I spent my first week in "23 and 1" which was our term for the SHU. I was then released to general population, proceeded to get jumped by some Bloods that same day, and got sent back to 23 and 1 for a week. I was jumped every time I got out to gen pop, and each time by a different gang. To sum it up. A total of 3 days out of a month in General Population. 3 times I was jumped there. I then got transferred to a medium security facility that's now been shut down. I spent 5 months there, and was only out of 23 and 1 for 2 months. The way it worked was there were 5 buildings where they kept inmates, and they were surrounding a larger building which was intake, the library, the "school", and the kitchen. You'd usually spend a week or so in Isolation after being transferred to a building from another one. The problem is is that they would transfer kids between buildings almost immediately after they were released from isolation. This would keep kids in isolation almost their entire stay. The building I spent the most time in didn't even have toilets in the cells. They would give us a plastic Jug to piss in, and a roll of toilet paper. We'd pour our piss in these drains in our cells designed to prevent us from flooding them, and wait till shower time where there was a toilet to take a dump. There was a female guard there that would perform sexual favors on some of the inmates. Keep in mind we were all under 18. I never got to get a piece myself, but you could tell what was going on, and you knew right away when it was going on. The third place I was sent to where I spent the rest of my time was one of those minimum security camps. The place really looked like a camp too, there weren't any fences, and all the walls and doors were made of wood. You could literally walk out if you wanted to. Some of the guards even dared us, but I never saw anyone try to escape from there. That place was the most corrupt of them all. Isolation wasnt that bad. I did get a piece of paper, and pencil to write a letter. Getting stuff smuggled in was far easier than you could imagine. Drugs, and weapons were very common there. It was amazing too because it was a coed camp. Meaning they housed both males and females there, just in different buildings. We interacted during school, and while we were working. It wasnt so rare for several of us to sneak off at once, and get a little frisky. The guards didnt give a shit, or if they did they sucked at their jobs. The minimum security camp also happens to be where I saw Riot Gear used by the guards the most during altercations with students. There was this one time where I think something similar to that story Larry tells about the kid getting his leg broken by the guards happened. I didnt see what happened IN the kids cell, but he was feisty, and loud on the way to it, and when they took him out of it he was limp, and looked like he was unconcious. I didnt spend very long at all. I didnt get into many altercations myself, but it's insane to how often I hear these stories that Larry tells, and it reminds me of when I was 15. It enrages me that he's telling me stories of abusive in the adult prison system, and its reminiscent of things I saw, heard, or experienced in the Juvenile system. At minimum security facilities.

I think the men who put these children in the cell deserve more than just isolation. Think of how horrible it is to put a 14 year old in isolation compared to an adult. Their minds are far less developed, and they can't grow this way.

After watching further and further into this video, I’m getting angrier and angrier too, saddened even. I’m getting emotional at how wrong this is. I wish we could just wipe the country clean and go from the bottom up at all these wrong things. Prisons, wealth distribution, late stage capitalism, police, rights, etc.

Everything he just said here is in line with the protests going on right now. If those in power are willing to do what they do in front of cameras with no restraint and no fear, what are they doing behind locked doors? If they are willing to show their anger and hate openly in a way only power can afford. How do they use that power when those without power are hidden? "If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" ~Abraham Maslow, The Psychology of Science. Published in 1966.
