@Larry Lawton great review video! Love shawshank! I have 2 favorite parts: the scene in the yard when Andy first talks to red about the rock hammer that's when the friendship started to grow and my 2nd fav scene is the rooftop when they are drinking beer, that's when you knew that group had unity.just my opinion is all but love your videos just recently found them and they are great.

@Larry Lawton I also got solitary because I let my buddy Aaron Holcomb (in there again now for manslaughter now) take my banana pudding I kid you not, u weren’t supposed to share food and they saw him take it from me. So later that day after we both got two weeks lockdown he told them he stole it from me and they let me out and he got 3 months lock down. That there’s a good guy, later on they found his cigs we held for him in our cell and we didn’t tell them whose it was cause they knew me and my cellie didn’t smoke, so they gave us a month lockdown but at least we were in the same cell in lock down together.

@Larry Lawton I can’t believe you actually read our comments, that’s awesome man. I was locked ya as a kid when I was 16-20 it was terrible and I always say I didn’t get to go to college or the Navy but I got to get my higher education and my makings as a man from NCDOC! I had bad friends and got caught up with possession of stolen goods from some businesses they robbed, I didn’t snitch like the first guy in our group so they threw the hammer so I sat in the slammer lol wasn’t funny then but now I’m 28 lost my dad a year out of the system kinda like you did just younger but I’ve got a family now so I’ve gotta be good for them. Hope you read this and someday review that old “Thief” movie glad I came across your channel brings up a lot of memories.

My dad showed me this movie when I was 12. I loved it. It ranks in my top 2 favorite movies of all time. When it was over, my dad asked me what I thought and I was speechless. It made me feel for people on the inside. I've never served time or anything, but this movie makes you feel for those guys, and the shit they have to go through (no pun intended) to get out. Then, they have to worry about being trusted. The way I see it, it isn't always the convicts' fault. It is the fault of society. With all of the racism and hate that is out there, we pretty much force people to commit crimes to get by, and if inmates have the courage to do their time and are willing to go straight, we have an obligation to help them.

Man what you said about the shower shoes @19:00 ... that's a very good point. I never did prison time, I've been to county a couple two, three times, but nothing harder than that. I did do time in the army in the early-late 2000s. I joined as an M1 Abrams tanker (spent the whole time with a bunch of dudes) and deployed three times (we were a rapid deployment unit, my gf atm and family hated it), which meant three NTC rotations and the showers there were open, no doors to the building, and the showers were the type where you had to push/press down the button for the ice cold water to run (my first time it was in December; cold ASF in the desert) and I hated wearing shower shoes! In my first tour, we went several, several months without running water, and when we got it set up, shit was gross.. we lived in horribly filthy conditions in that first tour. The next two weren't nearly as bad tho, but shower shoes man! Hahaha God that brought back some memories!

Larry, Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies. I’ve read the book and watched the movie more times than I can count. They don’t make enough movies like this, I don’t know why, but I’m super interested in prison movies/prison life. I’ve never been to prison, (not that I’m better than anyone who has), but I’ve met and befriended several people that were ex-convicts and I would have to say they always have the most interesting and entertaining stories. Anyways, my favorite part of the movie is when Haywood is in the library listening to Hank Williams because the look on his face and the way the actor played it was very pure. He’s able to just sit and enjoy the music of his childhood which seems like such a small thing to most people, but he’s able to get so much joy from such a small thing. Keep it up Larry, I love your videos and everything you’re doing to keep kids out of institutions.

The prison in the movie looks very much like the old USDB (United States Disciplinary Barracks) Leavenworth, which was the maximum security prison where members of the Army, Air Force and Marines with sentences in excess of 1 year serve their time. Officers from these branches serve their time here as well, regardless of the length of their sentence. Those convicted in the U.S. Navy are sent to the BOP (Bureau of Prisons) to serve their sentences. The "DB" had single man cells, bar doors, 5 tiers above ground and two below in each wing, very few windows all of which were all very high on the walls and allowed limited sunlight to enter. Everyone starts out as MAX in Admin Seg, regardless of what crime you are convicted on and you work your way up from there. There were guys that came in convicted on violent crimes who were out and up in Gen Population in 2 weeks and others who came in convicted on non violent crimes who end up staying there for months or even years. Many stories from that place...

Great Channel. Thank you for sharing your experiences! Fantastic movie. One of many parts that I enjoyed was when, after Andy broke out, the inmates were telling stories about Andy. Fun fact: SPOILER ALERT: Elmo Blatch (the one that killed Andy's wife) was a real guy. I don't remember what he did, but he was a tip top *p s y c h o.* And supposedly, that was THE real Elmo Blatch they used in the movie. "Him and this tasty b¡tch he was with" *kukoo laughter* "And he's the one they pinned it on!" Supposedly the real guy. And I'd believe it, cause boy his act seemed authentic.

Ahhh you left out one of the greatest parts. Earlier when the warden checked Andy's cell, he handed Andy back his bible saying "salvation lies within". And thats where andy hid the rock hammer. The warden opens it, and Andy had written something like "you were right, salvation does lie within" trolling the hell out of him while andy's out taking all that embezzled money. Edit: fuck i have to go watch it again. Shawshank Redemption is one of those few movies, when you're flipping through channels and you see it on, it doesnt matter how far into the movie it is you stop on that channel and watch the rest of it.

My brother was at the last island prison in the US, or one of the last in the US when it shut down. (I forgot the name it was like 10+ years ago) he got out, stayed with me for a night....then left. Throwing away the best chance he ever had at a new life. Hes been in and out his whole life since he got busted with gta at 11 years old. So he got out in....2010 maybe 2011 after his (then) most recent stretch of 4 years. Out 30 days, home invasion of a drug dealer..pistol whipped an 8 year old multiple times asking where daddys stash was. Now hes about 9 almost 10 years into a 20 year sentence. I stopped visiting him after he threw my efforts away. If/when i see him again, I'm going to beat his fuckin ass.

The BEST movie ever! The most beautiful thing a human being Can have is his FREEDOM & HOPE. Absolutely love the last lines of the movie spoken by Red: “I HOPE I can make it across the border. I HOPE I can see my friend and shake his hand. I HOPE the Pacific is as blue as it is in my dreams. I HOPE.” Red went from telling Andy that hope is “a dangerous thing” to that. Brilliant and heart warming. Thank you Mr. Larry Lawton for picking this wonderful movie. God bless you and stay safe. Greetings from Canada.

The movie - There were so many great scenes that it's not easy coming up with the best scene. But IMHO when Red got the bus, walked to the stone wall, found the tree & then found the tin with money & instructions... that was THE best part. It was as if a veil of despair has been lifted and suddenly there was hope & optimism. We all need hope & Andy gave that very thing to Red. I loved it.

I am gonna say it honestly but I am a gay guy and I personally did not like it when this one gay guy was being to rough with me and I was slammed and pressed up a wall hard and told him in a low tone to stop being rough because he was hurting me and was still being rough with me sense I was not enjoying this and I was powerless too, I may like guys and like to do these activities in private. I don't like being roughed up as they are doing it to me like that. So hearing what you said brought an old old memory of mines back, But luckily a person came in and spooked the guy and stopped, I still remember that moment like it was yesterday, It was a good thing I did not have to pull my underwear and pants back up as it never got that far but I was also unable to like tell anyone what happened because of that. That is the raw of my story.
